Taking Creative Control: Photo Manipulation @Hudson

Inspiration:
How do you take a pre-existing image and make it your own?
What kind of flair can you bring to shift the mood/tone of the image you chose?

 Task:

1. Everyone will claim an image to manipulate from the front table, grab a sheet of cardstock and glue their image down

2. Using Acrylic markers, start to define what shapes you want to modify/simplify to create a new character or vibe - focus on the big shapes first, we will add detail later

3. Once you have your bigger shapes mapped out, start to explore what kinds of texture/pattern you want to fill each of those shapes with - feel free to grab your pattern play sheet to support you.

We will have 2 days to complete this mini project.

Pattern Play @HHSLT

 Day 1: Pattern Play

Step 1 - Fold your paper into 4 sections
You will have about 7 minutes per section to fill each

Section 1: Make a squiggle and build off of it

Section 2: Make simple/random shapes and build out around them

Section 3: Make Fire/Lightning/Star/Fire-Work shapes and build out around them

Section 4: Drips! Make sure you have multiple overlapping shapes

Day 2+3 - Putting it together

Step 1: Trace a bunch of overlapping shapes onto cardstock
Each tiny section will be filled with a different pattern - make sure that similar patterns are NOT touching each other! Vary the colors and styles from section to section to have a more visually arresting outcome.

How do we know? What are some clues?

Recognizing shape, form and texture through familiar imagery - Building skills around visual language + how to manipulate materials + motor skills to translate it into physical form/artistic expression. The subject for this project (monsters) allows the students to be experts about the WHAT, to help support their creative development and give them their own internal sense of direction as they explore HOW to make their vision real.

Materials: Pre-traced cardstock, scissors, glue sticks, different kinds of paper, string
