Proportions of the Face
Face forward and in profile
1. Talk about how the structures underneath our skin shape the way we look - I want students to understand what the simple shapes most artists use as a base are representing, before we use those same simple structures to build our faces
2. Have students follow along on their sketch paper as I lay out a super simple face and apply rules of proportion to a face looking forward on the white board - Take a volunteer model to talk through/show how I personalize that simplistic face shape to match a real person - then give students 2 or 3 minutes to make the features on their drawing more specific
3. Demo a head in profile - connecting how the front face proportions apply, and after a simple shape - how I can make it more specific
